Carl Hobart Carlton, 92, of Swing Dairy Road, went to be with the Lord Friday Sept. 23, 2005, at Britthaven of Davidson after a strong, faithful fight with cancer.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Chapel by Dr. Harold Fletcher and the Rev. Ken Harris. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Mr. Carlton was born Jan. 26, 1913, in Wilkes County to Martin L. and Elizabeth Pilkenton Carlton. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed by Erlanger and Parkdale Mills and retired from the maintenance department of Davidson County Community College. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and was a faithful church member as long as his health permitted. He had served as a Sunday school teacher, choir leader and held many positions in his previous church. He was preceded in death by three brothers; a sister; a daughter; and a son.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 53 years, Pearl Jarvis Carlton, of the home; two sons, the Rev. Fred Carlton and his wife, Jean, of Statesville and Norman Carlton and his wife, Lynn, of Lexington; a stepson, Wayne Jarvis and his wife, Linda, of Welcome; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren (who were blessed to have him as "grandpa;"); seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, James Carlton, of Winston-Salem.

Mr. Carlton was a loving husband, father and "grandpa." He leaves behind many treasured friends and was truly an inspiration to anyone who met him.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home at 163 Swing Dairy Road.

Memorials may be made to Union Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 2295 Union Grove Road, Lexington, N.C. 27295.

Special thanks to Hospice of Davidson County and those who helped to make his last days peaceful.
