In 1848 he and his family migrated to the Bethesda community of Quachita County, Arkansas where he bought land and continued farming operations. Five more children were born there to Noah and Mary.
Noah and Mary prospered in Ouachita County and by 1861 had added five more children to their growing brood. However, he lost heavily during the great conflict now called the Civil War and in December 1864 he, his wife and younger children moved to the Branchville community, three miles east of Maysfield, Milam County, Texas where he bought land. It is reported that Noah and Mary furnished land where the Branchville school was built.
In a letter written in 1865 to his son Martin Van Buren back in Arkansas, Noah encouraged him to move his family also to Texas which he described as the "land of milk and honey...the finest place to farm and raise a family on earth".
Mary died April 20, 1875 and Noah died three weeks later on May 13, 1875. They were barely over 60 years of age. They are buried on the outside (east) of the Martin Van Buren iron fenced area in Pebble Grove Cemetery.
