Jack was the son of John Wellington Adams and Ella Malinda Snearly. Jack was born in a horse trailer near a road project where his father worked as a construction laborer.

In 1920, Hill County, Texas; J W Adams was enumerated with his parents John and Ella Adams; siblings: Earl, Jeff, and Joe Adams; grandmother Alice Snurly, aunt Katie Snurly, and uncle Lacy Snurly (1920 Census).

On 19 May 1933, Fisher County, Texas; Cleta Dry married J. W. Adams (Texas County Marriages, Film #001409300).

In 1940, Granbury, Texas; Jack and his wife Cleta were enumerated with two daughters: Jeanine and June (1940 Census).

On 16 Oct 1940, Granbury, Hood County, Texas; James Wellington Adams (B: 23 Jun 1913, Cleburne Johnson County, Texas), a resident of Granbury, registered for the World War II draft. He was described as 5' 8", 180 pounds, ruddy complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, and a contractor. Next of kin was recorded as W. B. Dry (draft card).

Jack began his career by building tanks and leveling trees. He later owned a transit mix company and was a successful contractor. He bought tracts of land in Encino for development. He had a reputation as a fighter. He survived 5 heart attacks until losing to one in his motel room in Tucumcari. He was widowed from his first wife of 21 years, Cleta. Jack was survived by his 2nd wife Alma of Santa Fe; and daughters June of Pasadena, California and Jeanine of Albuquerque; and his mother, a sister, and brother in Fort Worth, Texas (Las Vegas Optic, 16 Jul 1962).
