M. LaVerne "Bud" Ward, 85, died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, in Provena St. Anne Center.
Born Aug. 17, 1926, in Rockford; the son of Robert Morris and Wilma Lorraine (Miller) Ward. Graduated from West High School, Class of 1944, and attended the University of Illinois. Served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Married Laurella G. Pedlow on Sept. 6, 1948; she died Dec. 27, 1997. Bud was an engineer for Rockford Drop Forge for 44 years. Currently attended Heartland Community Church. Former member of First Presbyterian Church, Loves Park Masonic Lodge No. 633, Rockford Lions Club, and the United Way where he helped with the fundraising campaign at work. He loved being in nature, especially working in his yard and playing golf, and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. Bud was extremely witty, compassionate, and had a great love for people.
Survived by son, Kenneth (Marcy Marean) Ward of Rockford, IL; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Ward; grandchildren, Aaron (Heather) Ward, Lauren (Roger) Gustafson, Brad (Hannah) Ward and Andrew (Adriana) Ward; ten great-grandchildren; cousin, Lonnie Johnson; several nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Maria Biernacka, Jeff Semiche, and the Klingbeil family.
Predeceased also by son, Ronald L. Ward on Aug. 29, 2006.
Service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, in Heartland Community Church, 1280 S. Alpine Road, with Pastor Gordy Smith officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in the church.
Family prefers memorials to Heartland Community Church Compassionate Care Fund, 1280 S. Alpine Road, Rockford, IL 61108, or to the family for a donation to be made to the Rockford Park District Celebrate Life Program.
