Mr. Darrell Vance Halbert, 91, of McPherson, passed away at 5:05 a.m., Monday, November 28th, 2011 while in the company of family members at Cedars Health Care Center, McPherson, Kansas.

Mr. Halbert was born in Morganville, Kansas on October 10, 1920, the son of Homer and Georgia (Vance) Halbert.

Darrell attended and graduated from the Clay Center Schools, Clay Center Area.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church McPherson, Kansas.

Darrell served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Seaman 1st class in WW II and recevied the Good Conduct Medal.

Darrell worked as an employee for W.R. Mill for 34 years retiring in 1985 and was a farmer and stockman.

Darrell was a Life member of the VFW and a member of the Roving Rebels Camping Group. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.

Darrell Vance Halbert was united in marriage to Marcine Phillips Bengtson on June 7, 1975 at Hutchinson, Kansas.

Surviving family members include his wife of over 36 yearas, Marcine Donna (Phillips) Halbert, of McPherson, Kansas; his chidlren, Darrell R. "Dick" Halbert & wife Evelyn of Louisville, Kentucky; Larry Halbert of Eufala, Oklahoma, Kurt Halbert & wife Kim of Little River, Kansas, Alan Halbert & wife Christine of Lyons, Kansas, and Ruby A. Navarro & husband Tony of Emporia, Kansas; his step children, Karon Morse & husband Doug of Hutchinson, Kansas, Donna Ostner & husband John of Little Rock, Arkansas, Lucky Bengtson & companion Linda McPherson of Gamallel, Arkanasas and Marica Smith & husband Edward of Little Rock, Arkansas; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren;
8 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Linda Halbert, brothers and sisters, Hildreth Crane, Leonard Halbert, Marie Bruce, Rayburn Halbert, and Lyle Halbert, 2 grandsons Larry Dean Halbert, Jr. and Dustin Hutchinson, and a granddaughter, Sara Halbert.

Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 2nd, with Pastor Mike Marion officiating.

Committal and burial of cremains will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, at the Bean Cemetery Little River, Ks. with military honors presented by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 and American Legion Post 24, both of McPherson, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be given to Meals on Wheels McPherson, ks. or Hospice Care of Kansas and they can be sent in care of the Gildden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
