Born in Ilhavo, Portugal. He was a Merchant Marine- cooked on ships. In 1917 he was a deck hand on the ferry boat "Ukiah". He married Adelaide Clara (1889-1976) in Dec 18, 1909 in Ilhavo, Portugal. He immigrated to California onboard the "USS Roma" in 1915. He wife and two children Manuel Francis Silva and Adelaide Dolores Silva immigrated in 1917. Their youngest daughter Sylvia Celeste Silva was born in Oakland, CA in 1918. "VoVo always had a big garden, grafting fruit trees as well. He made his own wine and baked lots of bread and pies.
