He married Dorothy Rainbolt on 14 Apr 1935 in Fullerton, Orange County, CA. They had three children. He married the former Ruth Hancock on 17 Jan 1953 in Buena Vista, King & Queen County, VA.
Lawton was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
