Mary Jane was the daughter of John & Mary E. (Merrill) McLaughlin, at Putnam, NY. She grew to womanhood there. On March 9, 1871 at Lansingburg-on-the-Hudson, NY to Simeon A. Aiken. She died in her farm home, which her husband had built in 1871-2; dying from a paralytic stroke, which she had suffered 5 days prior. She was a charter member of Center Ridge Presbyterian Church, in which her funeral service was conducted. The land for that church and its adjoining cemetery were carved out of the farm owned and farmed by Mary Jane and her husband Simeon.
