NEW CARLISLE - Lester J. "Butch" Luke, 67, of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 26, 2011. Butch was born June 30, 1944, in South Bend, Indiana to Clyde Nathan and Gertrude Hildagard (Rogers) Luke. He retired from A.M. General in 1999, after 33 years of service. On April 3, 1964 Butch married Linda Vogeley who survives. Surviving with his wife Linda are daughters, Donna (Michael) Walters of Lakeville, Indiana, Alexis Marie Luke at home; grandchildren, Jacob Rogers, Francis Milliman, Angelica Walters; and a brother, Gerald Luke of South Bend, Indiana. Lester was preceded in death by sisters and brothers, Charlotte, John, Betty, Delbert, Donald, Zelma, Harriet, Larry, Clyde, and Eldonia. Butch was the 3rd District Commander of The Sons of the American Legion and the Indiana State Chairman for Homeless Veterans; a Financial Officer, Membership Chairman, Color Guard Commander, and member for 24 years of the American Legion, Post 297, New Carlisle; a member of V.F.W. Post 9820; a supporter of Miller's Vets; and a member of the A.M. General Retiree's Club. Butch was known as the Mayor of Mini Mountain. Butch played in Nashville, Tennessee with the "Drifters" and was an avid musician, playing locally in several different venues. He collected Classic Cars. Butch never met a stranger and was always there for everyone. He was truly loved by all and will be greatly missed. Visitation for Butch will be held from 2-8 p.m., Wednesday, November 30, 2011, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2011, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the New Carlisle Cemetery.
