He was born December 1, 1932, in Jackson, the son of Elmer H. and Anna E. Biri Leimer.
Joe was a lifelong, active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, the church of his baptism, confirmation, and marriage. He and Marjorie Lichtenegger were married June 19, 1953. They had been married 56 years when Marjorie passed away September 9, 2009. Through the years, Joe was Chairman of the St. John’s Congregation and served on numerous other church committees.
Joe attended the former Fruitland grade school and earned his GED while stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on February 6, 1953. He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a corporal on February 4, 1955.
Joe worked 54 years as a truck driver for Kasten Clay Products and Ceramo Pottery, both in Jackson, Lang Trucking in Old Appleton, and Ryder Truck Leasing. He felt fortunate to never have had a single accident during his driving career. He and Marjorie enjoyed traveling, polka dancing, and gardening.
Loving survivors include five children, David K. (Frances) Leimer, Steven (Brenda) Leimer, Sherri (Dale) Robinson, all of Jackson, Michael (LaRae) Leimer of Cape Girardeau, Barbara (the late Richard) Dunlap of Clark, Pennsylvania; a brother, Herbert (Dorothy) Leimer of Jackson; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Marjorie, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Leimer; a grandson, Owen Leimer; a brother-in-law, Vernon Lichtenegger and his parents.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 PM Sunday, November 19, 2017 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral service will at 10:00 AM Monday, November 20, 2017 at the funeral home, with Rev. Lawrence Bradt officiating. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Pocahontas.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. John’s Church or Lutheran Home Hospice.
