Jason Cannon Amos, 87, of Hearne, Texas, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan. Services were held on July 31, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Hearne with Rev. Larry Blackmon officiating. Music was provided by Wilma McCormick, Charles Luster and Diane Blackmon. Burial took place at Sunnyside Cemetery in Calvert. A visitation was held July 30, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne.

He was born on May 19, 1921, in Mart, Texas, to James and Dora Amos. Cannon was the eleventh child of fourteen siblings. He served in the C.C. Corps prior to joining the Army during WWII.

In 1957, he joined his brother, Rubin to start Hearne Steel Company. As President and CEO of Hearne Steel for over 50 years, Cannon was a vital supporter of youth and local community organizations throughout the Brazos Valley that included schools, basketball parks and county livestock programs.

He will always be remembered for his strong work ethic, devotion to family and caring for others.

Cannon was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Amos; parents, James and Dora Amos; brothers, Milton, Newman, Bailey, Rubin and Thomas; sisters, Ruth, Blanch and Myrtle.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Archie Carroll Dicky of Corpus Christi, Rodney and Rita Amos of Hearne, Cannon Ray and Debra Amos of College Station and Ricky Amos of Woodville; daughter, Connie Ricks of College Station; fifteen grandchildren, Wayne, Alan, David, Kim, Amy, Jason, Krystle, Brad, Angela, Randall, D'Anne, James, Kristen, Kimberly and Christi; brothers, Jim Amos of Waco, John and Bob Amos of Calif.; sisters, Mildred Cobb of Longview, and Beatrice Degelia of Hearne; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers were Randall Ricks, Brad Chappell, James Amos, Alan Dicky, Wayne Dicky, Sam Brown, Russell Warschak, David Barker, Garlan Horan and Ray Cass.

Honorary pallbearer was grandson, Jason Cannon Amos.

Jason Cannon's legacy of love and service to others will live on in the many lives he touched. He will be greatly missed by all.
