Mortensen Dies From Accident

"Morten Mortensen, who was struck by Frank Roberts’ auto on June 29 at Denman's station, near Petaluma, died at the Roselawn Sanitarium early on Friday morning. He had been in a comatose condition since the accident. An Inquest was held by Coroner F. L. Blackburn on Friday afternoon.

District Attorney C. F. Lea represented the people and Thomas J. Butts was present in behalf of Mr. Roberts, while W. H. Early represented the widow of the deceased. Drs. Gossage and Peoples were placed on the stand and testified to the injuries received by the deceased. They testified that death resulted from the shock and concussion of the brain.

Mr. Roberts testified that he had stopped his auto to allow the electric car to pass. When he started up, Mortensen crossed the road safely, but when Mr. Roberts blew the horn, Mortensen started back in front of the car and was knocked down. Mrs. Roberts was next called and fainted on leaving the stand. Her testimony was unimportant.

The jury rendered a verdict that deceased came to his death from injuries received from an unavoidable automobile accident at the hands of Frank Roberts. The Coroner and District Attorney approved the verdict.

Mr. Mortensen was a highly esteemed citizen, and leaves a wife and six children. He was a native of Denmark, aged 50 years. The funeral will be held today."
