Lora Kring Roach, 97, died on March 2, 2005, in San Antonio. Born in Papalote on August 7, 1907, to Peter M. and Annie B. Carlisle Kring, Lora grew up in Papalote and Skidmore. After finishing high school in Skidmore, she moved to Corpus Christi to attend business school. In 1930, she married Arthur C. Roach. They made their home in Corpus Christi until they moved to the Incarnate Word Retirement Community in San Antonio in 1994. 'Mamaw' was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was deeply involved in her five children's activities during their school years. She was also the family's chief baker and pie maker. Over the years, she made enough banana bread and brown sugar brownies to feed an army of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At age 90 she baked 5 pies for the family Thanksgiving dinner. Anytime the grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited, if she wasn't in the kitchen, she was playing Pokeno or Dominoes with them. A longtime member of the Cathedral, St. Patrick's, and St. Pius X parishes in Corpus Christi, she was active in a variety of church organizations and activities. For many years she worked in the Spohn Hospital gift shop as a volunteer, a position she continued at the Incarnate Word Retirement Community. Whenever a relative, a friend, or a neighbor was in need of help, she never failed to respond. She was preceded in death by Arthur, her husband of 68 years, as well as by her son Michael and daughter Kathleen. She is survived by two daughters, Bea Fagan and Evelyn Roach of San Antonio, one son, Pat and wife Margaret Roach of Austin, 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 'adopted' daughter Nora Zepeda, 4 sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2005 at Maxwell Dunne Funeral Home in Corpus Christi. Recitation of the rosary will follow at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Pius X Catholic Church in Corpus Christi on Saturday March 5, 2005 at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park on Ocean Drive. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren: Jeanne Fagan LaMontagne, Peggy Fagan Harkins, Kevin Fagan, Nan Fagan Patterson, Brian Fagan, Lori Fagan McDonough, Will Fagan, Mark P. Roach, Chris Roach, Kelly Roach Tagle, Megan Roach Plant, David Roach, Patrick Michael Roach, and Courtenay Roach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
