Ada Leah James of Hartshorne, OK passed away at Talihina Indian Hospital July 20, 1981 at the age of 81. She was born Ada L. Redwine near Red Oak on August 25, 1899. She wed John Baird James in 1916 and lived at Limestone Prairie near Wilburton. Some years later she moved to San Francisco, CA where she worked as a beauty instructor in the California Beauty School, the state's oldest beauty school. After a time she became head instructor at Polytechnic Beauty College in the state. She was a creative hair stylist who styled hair and make-up for celebities as well as regular patrons in her "Marada Beauty Salon" in Los Angeles. She made and owned "La Mirada Cosmetiques" for several years.
Ada retired to Wilburton where her husband preceded her in death. They had three children, Adolph Robinson James, who now resides in Seattle, WA; John Baird James, Jr. of Wilburton, OK and Ola Margaret Carlson of Hartshorne, OK. Mrs. James is also survived by a brother, Mr. A.M. (Bud) Redwine and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Verona Wilson of Panola, OK; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services for Mrs. James will be held Thursday, July 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cavary Baptist Church in Wilburton. Rev. Ray Pugh will officiate. Interment will follow at Lutie Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Buster Ramsey, Cecil Bullard, Herman Colvard, Robert Burgess, D.H. Jeffrey and Clyde Wooldridge.
