J Eldon Yung, 75, of Warrensburg, Mo., died Nov 20, at Country Club Care Center, Warrensburg.
He was born Feb 17, 1931, in Guide Rock, Neb., the son of John and Golda (Rouse) Yung.
Mr Yung graduated from Guide Rock High School in May, 1949. He received a bachelor of arts in education in 1958 and a master of arts degree in education both from Nebraska State Teachers College, Kearney, doctor of education degree from University of Missouri at Columbia in 1965. From 1949 to 1951 he played minor league professional baseball for the Kansas-Oklahoma-Missouri (KOM) Baseball League.
On March 9, 1951, he married Darlene Opal Payne in Guide Rock. She died May 11, 2005.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1955 with overseas service in Japan.
From 1959 to 1961 he taught junior high industrial arts in Omaha. He was superintendent of schools at Holstein, from 1961 to 1963.
Mr Yung was a professor at central Missouri State University in Industrial technology, retiring in 1991. He was chair of the Department of Graphics from 1968 to 1977.
He served six years on the Warrensburg R-VI Board of Education serving both as president and vice-president.
Mr Yung was a director for Phi Delta Kappa District III Representative of West Central Missouri Genealogical Society and publications coordinator;member of the Sons of the American Revolution Martin Warren Chapter, Warrensburg, Missouri society of the S.A.R., Warrensburg of Wheels Car club, Lincoln & Continental Owners Club, member of First United Methodist Church and its Aldersgate Sunday school class.
Survivors include a daughter, Ronda Yung, Springfield, Mo., a son, Larry Yung, Warrensburg, five grandchildren, Kim Moore, Trudy Jessop, Marsha Larimer, Riley Yung and Brad Shackelford, three great-grandchildren, Triston Chamberlain, Jacey Jessop and Devin Jessop; two sisters, Mrs Marvin Meistrell (Carolyn), Manning, S.C., and Mrs Dick Barta (Joy), Independence, Kan.; a brother, Lowell Yung, Axtell, Neb.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers Wendell and Billie Yung.
Services were held Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Warrensburg with the Rev Dr Sally Haynes, officiating. Cremation followed.
Pall bearers were John Brooks, Riley Yung, Brad Shackelford, Levi Moore, Wyatt Larimer and Jim Jessop.
Private family burial was in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Williams Funeral Chapel, Warrensburg, was in charge of arrangements.
