Mary was born April 13, 1909 to Wilhelm and Henrietta (Rosenbaum) Buerger of the Zionsville community of Washington County, Texas and attended Washington County Public School. She was baptized July 4, 1909 at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville by Pastor Michael Haag and confirmed April 13, 1924 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill by Pastor George Czyrkus.
On April 16, 1930 she was married to Charles Schulte Jr. at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill by Pastor Paul Gogolin. Mary and her husband owned and operated the family grocery store in Clay for 37 years.
Survivors are: sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Dorothy Schulte and F.C. "Sonny" and Doris Schulte; daughter, Mary Helen Cade, all of Brenham; grandchildren, Darrell Wayne Schulte and wife Liz, Russell J. Schulte and wife Pennee, Michael William Schulte and wife Kaysee and Mark Charles Schulte; and great-grandchildren, Natasha Cornell, Casey Schulte, Derrick Schulte, Sarah Schulte, McKenna Schulte and Keaton Schulte.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers; three sisters and their spouses; and son-in-law, William P. Cade.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill. Pastor Virgil Pecht will officiate. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Pallbearers are: Thomas Schulte, F.C. "Sonny" Schulte, Darrell Schulte, Russell Schulte, Michael Schulte, Mark Schulte, Derrick Schulte and Keaton Schulte. Memorials may be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill, Hospice-Brenham or charity of choice.
