Selina Marie Besalski Shrimpton, daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, teacher and seeker completed her transition surrounded by angels both earthly and heavenly and was received into the loving embrace of her beloved God on the afternoon of October 7, 2005 at her last residence, Brighton Gardens. She was born February 12, 1908 in Decatur Illinois, the second child and first daughter blessed to Herman and Margaret Besalski. Her brother, sisters, spouses and families were a source of great joy and delight for her. At an early age her family relocated to San Antonio, Texas where she resided for many years. Selina attended Incarnate Word College, University at Boulder and the University of Texas and received her undergraduate degree in education. She had a long and successful career as an elementary teacher and touched the lives of many children as well as colleagues and administrators during her 30 years in the classroom. She also developed a very successful preschool program for Holy Cross Lutheran Church. At age 50, Selina returned to college while teaching full time and earned her Masters Degree, a goal that brought her great satisfaction. Selina was married for 62 years to her loving, gentle, sweet husband, Wayne. Together they raised two children, honored one another and embraced the remarkable adventure that life afforded them. Selina is survived by her children and their spouses, Jerry and Joan Shrimpton and Judy and David Rohde as well as five grandchildren, Dan Shrimpton, Jennifer Grothamel, Christopher, Sean and Brian Rohde. She is also blessed with eight great-grandchildren Kate, Maire and Emily Shrimpton; Robbie and Kylie Grothamel; Ryan, Evan and Kate Rohde. She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, her husband and will be laid to rest surrounded by them. Her family expresses gratitude to Odyssey Hospice for their extraordinary expertise, support, compassion and faithfulness, particularly Leslie, Patty and Sarah and also to the staff of Brighton Gardens who demonstrated what servant hood is really about. Finally, thanks and gratitude to Kathy Blagg, Bob Gipson and Jasmina for the love and hospitality they extended to Selina during the years she enjoyed as a resident of Hycrest House.
