On September 13,1894, James married Ellen Cleary at Rantoul, Illinois. To this union 12 children were born, four of whom passed away in infancy.
In the spring of 1801, James moved to Woodard, Oklahoma. He and the family lived there until August 1918, when they moved to Ness County, Kansas where he lived the rest of his life. He joined the Methodist Church when a young man. He was known to all his neighbors and friends and will be greatly missed by all.
James was survived by his children: Joseph of Denver, Colorado; Leo of Ness City; Garnett, Mike and Edna of the home; Mrs Marguerite Smith of Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. Florence Cutler of Twin Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Ellen Holmes of Ransom. There were also 18 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Fitzgerald Funeral home. Burial was in the Ness City Cemetery.
