Melissa Price Beason was the seventh child of Joseph and Samantha (Morris) Beason, was born on the Dr. Cox farm near Osceola, St. Clair County, Missouri. In 1875 the family moved to Thurman, Fremont County, Iowa Melissa's mother died in 1877. The family moved to Waubonsie Creek. While there she and James Mackey and her brother Ephraim and Adenia Stephens eloped. They were married in Rockport, Atchison County, Missouri on September11, 1878. (vol3 pg 182) James Anderson Mackey was the son of James and Eliza (Beal) Mackey.
To this union there were eleven children William, Desta, John, Anna, Eliza, Rosa, Leroy, George, Pearl, James, Velma and Naomi. Desta was born in March6, 1881 and died on 1882.
Jim died on July 20, 1942 age 88 years. Melissa died the following year December 28, 1943. Both are buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery near Hamburg.
