She was born in Greene County in what was then known as the Thula community, and was a daughter of the late Enoch and Bess Solomon Bible. She was the widow of J. Hubert Shortt and Ed Watterson.

Mrs. Watterson retired from the Hawkins County School System and the Rogersville City School System after more than 40 years of service.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law: Lorraine and Robert Ailshie of Tusculum; and a brother: Enoch Murray "Tom" Bible Jr. of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three nephews: Donahue Bible of Mohawk, Jim Bible of Fairfield Glade, and Steve Ailshie of Georgia; two nieces: Nancy B. Grubb of Bulls Gap and Cheryl Eggelston of Indiana; a stepdaughter: Margaret Watterson Walker of Richmond, Va.; a stepgrandson: Roy Walker Jr. of Richmond; two stepgranddaughters: Jerrie Lohr of Richmond and Kathy Ranson of Dywyn, Va.; two stepgreat-grandchildren: Sarah Lohr of Richmond and R.B. Ranson of Dywyn; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Val O. "Rass" Bible and J.T. Bible.
