Friends may call at the mortuary from 7 to 9 tonight. Masonic rites will be there at 8. Mr. Edwards died at 8:20 p.m. Monday at Methodist Medical Center where he was admitted March 6. He had been an agent for Prudential Insurance Co. for 38 years, last working in 1960.
A resident of the current address for five years, he was born in Peoria on July 14, 1895. He was a son of James Oscar and Frances Butler Edwards and married Gladys L. Catlin in in Peoria Nov. 27, 1919.
Mr. Edwards was a member of First United Methodist Church; Temple Lodge 46, AF&AM; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria; Mohammed Temple, Shrine; Life Underwriters Association; and the YMCA Advanced Youth Group of which he was a former secretary.
He was a World War I Army veteran and a member of Peter Sommer Post 814, VFW; and Peoria Post 2, American Legion.
Surviving are his wife; One daughter, Mrs. Roy (Betty Lou) Scherler of Peoria; and three sons, Robert J. and Charles S. both of Peoria, and Herbert "Oscar" Edwards Sr. of Abingdon. Also Surviving are one sister, Mrs. David (Edna) Sorrell of Houston, Tex.; two brothers; Merle of Hendersonville, N.C., and Bill of Forest, Tex.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
