FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR THOMAS

Scotts Mills,February,11--One of the largest funerals held here was that of A.E. Thomas, 84, held Tuesday afternoon in the I.O.O.F. hall. Rev. H. Macy of the Friends church officiated. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Aranthus E. Thomas was born near Silverton, Oregon, January 21,1848, on the donation land claim of his parents, Lauren and Eliza (Spores) Thomas. He died at his home near here February 6,1932. He enlisted in the Civil War at the age of 17, joining Company C,1st Oregon Regiment of Infantry, for a service of three years and received honorable discharge October 31,1865.

He was united in marriage October 3, 1867, to Lydia Wade at Marquam, Oregon, being married over 64 years. Seven of their 11 children are living: Elmer Thomas of Wheatland, Ben and Roy of Scotts Mills, Anna Ferguson, Grace Dart and Ethel Brosig of Scotts Mills, and Bertha Vedder of Gladstone. Five brothers, Dee Thomas of Independence, Oregon, Henry of Lyons, Oregon, Coradon of Marquam, Oregon, George and Isaac Daniel Thomas of Silverton and one sister, Emma Bagby of Oregon City. Twenty-three grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, other relatives, neighbors and
friends, who will miss his smiling face and helpful hand and ever cherish his memory. Six of his grandsons acted as pall bearers: Clayton Thomas, Marvin Dart, Edward Lawton, Byrd Ferguson, Joe Brosig and Dean Vedder.
