Probably encouraged and possibly assisted to come to the USA by his wife's brother, Joseph Thomas Snell. Edwin's first job in Gwinnett County, GA was to build the Methodist Church in Snellville. He moved his family from London, England to Snellville in 1886. Two years later he died from typhoid fever, leaving his wife with five surviving children:
