Hazel Lamb was the 2nd daughter of Willis and Melissa Taylor Lamb. She was born in Greene County, Virginia. She played the banjo, baked cakes and pies and sold them to the people in Stanardsville, and raised nine children. She lived with her husband on a farm near South River and later they moved to Charlottesville, Virginia. She died of old age at the University of Virginia Hospital.
