Enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant on 1 Aug 1861 in Brooklyn, New York. Commissioned an officer in Company D, New York 48th Infantry Regiment on 21 Aug 1861. Promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant on 29 Apr 1862. Mustered out on 18 Jul 1863 at Fort Wagner, SC. Died on the battlefield and buried there.
