This we know - his 2nd wife was Johannah Lower a d/o Jacob Lower and Catherine Hoffman Lower. His first wife was Hannah Paulin. Hannah Paulin committed suicide and left him with children. See her obituary. Johanna Lower was previously married. Johanna Lower was previously married. See photo of Joseph Candel and wife posted to ancestry.com. Believe it may be second wife. Based on the style of dress and age of photo taken at Webb Studio, (comparing with other photos) we believe this is second wife, Johannah Lower.

Joseph Candel was a wagonmaker by trade and made impliments for John Paulin and other relatives. Bought his father's farm in Dec 4, 1852 after father's death and related lifetime posessions. Farm later sold in 1905 to his son Henry amd as of this writing beein in family 110 years.

Elias Paulin, father of his wife, was a relative to Peter Paulin.

I have a copy from the Columbiana County Ohio & Vicinity Bible Records Vol I. It is a white book at the Youngstown Library. Page 49

It says: Joseph Candle Family Bible

A photocopy of the original two pages torn from the family Bible is in the possession of Carol Willsey Bell, C. G. If there were other pages, they did not survive. The photocopy was supplied by Kay Greenisen, 1600 SE 9 Ave., Okee, FL. 33474 on Feb. 14, 1985

Columbiana Co., OH. marriages v3 pg401 show that Joseph Candel & Hannah Paulin were married on Jan. 2, 1845 by John G. Ellinger, MG.

Mrs. Greenisen notes that Hannah committed suicide by hanging in 1867.

CANDELS, MRS. JOSEPH -- 2 mile east of Columbiana, Friday last week, suicide by hanging, leaves husband and 5 children.

They family of Joseph Candel lived in Beaver Twp., Mahoning Co., Oh. in the 1850 census, pg345, where Joseph "Candels" is aged 28, born in Ohio, a wagonmaker with $875 in real estate; Hannah aged 25, born in Ohio; Children: Elias - 4; Catherine - 2; Saloman - 1, all born in Ohio. Living nearby George Candels, 57m PA., a farmer with $2580 in real estate, Elizabeth 52f PA. Eliasbeth 2nd 18f OH; Catherine 16f OH; George 14m OH; and Ellen 12f OH.
