T0 SAVE MONEY, LOST LIFE ROY BROWN, A YOUNG MAN FROM MISSOURI, MUTILATED LAST NIGHT AT COLUMBIA SIDING
Roy Brown will lose his life as a result of trying to steal a ride on a freight train. Brown is a young man and several weeks ago left his home in Missouri to try life on the coast. Yesterday he purchased a ticket from Spokane to Columbia Siding and from that place attempted to beat his way on the train to Seattle. In attempting to board the rear end of a freight train while the train was in motion, he was hurled against a pile of fruit boxes that were stacked up on the platform. The man was thrown under the moving train, one arm was mashed and mutilated and he was otherwise badly cut up.
He was taken on to Quincy, but the doctor there considered it too serious a case for them to handle and he was brought to this city on No. 3 and taken to the Gilchrist hospital, Dr. McCoy did what he could to relieve the man but considered him in too precarious a condition to operation and says there is no hope for him.
A considerable amount of money was found on the man and there is no excuse for him attempting to beat his way on the train. He is about 24 years of age, strong and hearty and bears evidence of refinement. His people will be communicated with.

INJURED MAN DIED YESTERDAY
ROY BROWN, INJURED AT COLUMBIA SIDING FRIDAY NIGHT, PASSED AWAY YESTERDAY MORNING
Roy Brown, the young man who was injured Friday night at Columbia Siding while attempting to steal a ride on the Great Northern freight train bound for Seattle, died at the Gilchrist hospital yesterday morning at 11 o'clock. The remains were taken to the Wenatchee Undertaking Parlors, which company will have charge of the shipment of the body to his old home at Archie, Missouri. The deceased was about 24 years of age, and is a recent arrival from the east. He had paid his fare as far as Columbia Siding and then thought to save his money and beat his way the rest of the distance to Seattle. Attempting to do so he climbed onto a freight train Friday night, but the train in passing the station platform, hurled the man against some fruit boxes which were piled up on the platform. Brown was thrown under the train and the result was that he had one arm badly crushed and he also received internal injuries from which he was not able to recover. Dr. McCoy did everything possible for him but on Saturday announced that his injuries would be fatal.
