Howard Edgar Reed
Funeral services for Howard Edgar Reed, prominent Dudley citizens, will be held from the Methodist Church in that place on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Lester Showalter officiating. Interment will be made in the Protestant cemetery at Dudley, directed by Huff's funeral service. Friends may call at the Reed home.
Mr. Reed passed away on Saturday afternoon at 10 o'clock at the Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, following a brief illness.
He was born in Carbon Township on October 11, 1877, and was a son of Scott Reed and Maria (Collins) Reed. He was united in marriage to Mary L. Houck on Nov. 27, 1902 at Dudley.
Mr. Reed was a member of the Methodist Church at Dudley, and he was well known throughout the Broad Top region. He was a mine foreman for the Shannon Coal Company for 34 years, but had been retired for the past several years.
He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mildred (Mrs. Charles Howells) of Dudley, Belva (Mrs. Orvin Troy) of Robertsdale, Neva (Mrs. Thomas Wilson) of Saxton, and May (Mrs. Thomas Black) of Dudley. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Amy Wheeling of Six Mile Run.
