Death of Rev. F. A. Chapman
Rev. Francis A. Chapman died in this city at 8 o'clock Monday morning in the 62nd year of his age. Private services, attended by relatives and a few friends, were held at the Hall chapel Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock, Rev. O. C. Weller and Rev. D. C. Bevan officiating, and the next morning Mrs. Chapman started with her husband's remains on the last sad journey to his birthplace, Candor, N.Y., where the funeral will be held and the interment will take place.
Francis A. Chapman was born in Candor, N.Y., April 27, 1854; entered the ministry of the M. E. Church when he was 28 years of age; served for 33 years pastorates in New York, Pennsylvania, and Michigan and supply work in Oregon seven years ago, when he was here for a short time. Being in poor health, he returned to Oregon last April, making his home in Woodburn. He married Miss Cecelia Wright in Candor in 1871, who with two sons, A. F. Chapman of Los Angeles and Dr. W. A. Chapman of Woodburn, survives him.
Rev. Mr. Chapman was a scholar, of unusual, kindly spirit, keen intellect, broad in his sympathies, and had at heart an interest in the great cause for which all churches stand without being narrow, and was a most interesting conversationalist.
