U.S. Congressman. He attended Wittenberg College, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1869, and practiced law in Wapakoneta, Ohio. He served as prosecuting attorney of Auglaize County, Ohio (1875 to 1878) and served as Captain of Company G in the Ohio National Guard (1878 to 1883). In 1891, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second, Fifty-third, and Fifty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1897. Not a candidate for re-election, he resumed practicing law and served as Judge of Auglaize County's Court of Common Pleas (1908 to 1926).
