Born to Davidson and Kiziah Malinda Tarlton Polk Brooks,daughter of John P. Tarlton and his wife Mary Ann Parrot Tarlton. They were married around 1842 in Union County, North Carolina after the death of Kiziah's first husband Col. Thomas Polk. He had promised her "Riches and Gold".They were married in 1841 and he died 8 months later on 3 May 1842.He is buried in the "Old Polk Cemetery" in Gibraltar,Union County, North Carolina.


Married to Martha Emiline Smith,daughter of William Valentine and Mary Malinda Shinn Smith,in Union County, North Carolina on 28 Mar 1883 by W.A. Austin,J.P.@ his residence in New Salem Township.

They lived in a house built by Daniel Jenkins.

They sold this place and moved to Midland,Cabarrus County, North Carolina after he got into a dispute with the "Purser's" about selling grain on the steps of New Hope Baptist Church,which his father-in-law,William Valentine Smith started.
The men in the family went in one wagon in one direction and the women went in another direction to their destination.
