William D. Copeland, 76, long time
Shelbyville business official and civic
leader, died last Wednesday at
Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville after
a long illness.

He was the brother of Ray Copeland
of Tullahoma, chairman emeritus of
Traders National Bank.

Mr. Copeland was former mayor of
Shelbyville, retired manager of
United Cities Gas Co. in Shelbyville,
former chairman of the Shelbyville
City School Board, former president
of the Shelbyville-Bedford County
Chamber of Commerce and Lions
Club and former director of the
Upper Duck River Development
Association. He was a Mason and a
Member of the Al Menah Shrine
Temple of Nashville. He was a member
and official of Shelbyville First United
Methodist Church and also was a
veteran of World War II.

A native of Moore County, he was
the son of the late James and Pearl
Waggoner Copeland.

Services were Friday at Harrison
Funeral Home in Lynchburg, with the
Rev. Frank Smith officiating. Burial
was in Lynchburg Cemetery.

Survivors in addition to his brother
are his wife, Mrs. Mary Frances Bobo
Copeland; a son, William Bobo Copeland
of Chattanooga; five sisters, Mrs.
Elizabeth Tracy of Miami, Fla., Mrs.
Lucille Kroyer of New Port Riche, Fla.,
and Mrs. Jewell Simpson of Lynchburg
and two grandchildren.
