LOYALTY RANGER

William Thomas Gardner was born April 14, 1879 in Big Foot, Frio County, Texas, to Joseph William Gardner and Jennie Holmes. William stood 5ft. 10in. tall, had dark eyes, brown hair and a dark complexion. He was married to Olivia Tabitha Howard on March 2, 1903 They had twelve children. William was a sheriff and tax collector from November 5, 1912 thru November 5, 1918, in Carrizo Springs, Dimmit County, Texas. He enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a LOYALTY RANGER on June 7, 1918 thru February 1919. He was a Dimmit County Deputy sheriff for 2 years. In May 1917, he applied for Ranger captaincy. In 1920 he was a farmer in Dimmit County. In 1930, he was a laborer in a pecan grove in Uvalde, Uvalde County, Texas. William Thomas Gardner died August 20, 1945, in Zavala County, Texas. He was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Carrizo Springs, Dimmit County, Texas.
