Richard L. "Rich" Rump Jr., 62, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 9:32 PM at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
He was born on February 15, 1949 in St. Louis, MO to Richard L. and Rose Peterschmidt Rump Sr. On March 25, 1972 he married Beth Delaney in Ft. Madison. He was a 1967 graduate of Aquinas High School and a 1971 graduate of Creighton University. Richard served in the US Army and was discharged as a 1st Lt. Rich was a systems analyst for Sheaffer Pen Co for twenty five years and then a network services manager for Qwest for eight years. He was the Holy Trinity Development Director for two years and after retirement worked for Top Notch Puppies and Motion Industries. Rich was a coach for little league and pony league baseball, Aquinas High School varsity boys and JV girls basketball and was the assistant coach "Coach Dad" for Notre Dame varsity boys basketball and the Ft. Madison Junior High girls basketball teams. Rich was a member of Holy Family Parish where he was a parish council president. He was a member of the Aquinas Athletic Board for several years, the Aquinas School Board, the Chamber of Commerce, and a God's Portion Day Chairman. He was also the chairman for the Parks and Recreation Board and the Tri State Rodeo Concessions for twenty three years. He helped merge the Aquinas and Marquette schools and was a member of the original Holy Trinity Foundation Board and the student tuition organization board of the Southeast Iowa Catholic Schools.
Survivors include his wife, Beth Rump of Ft. Madison; three sons, Ryan Rump of Burlington, Matt (Lindsey) Rump of Ft. Madison and Andy Rump of Hawaii stationed with the US Navy; twin granddaughters, Addison Rose and Avery Dane Rump of Ft. Madison; father, Richard L. Rump, Sr. of Ft. Madison; two brothers, Kurt (Jan) Rump of Rochester, MN and Charlie (Becky) Rump of Wever; two sisters, Carolyn (Steve) Kokjohn of Farmington and Sue (Karl) Pieper of Ft.
Madison; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mom, Rose.
Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery
