Ethel Vance was born in 1884 to George Vance and Mary Pond. She along with her brothers, Roy and Percy would live in Glendale and eventually move to Melrose, Montana after the Hecla Mining Company ceased operations at Glendale. They were among some of the final residents of this once prosperous mining community. Ethel was married several times throughout her life and passed away in Butte, Montana. She outlived all her husbands and her daughter, Leona Slater Kent. Ethel Vance was very close to my mother and I recall the many stories she would tell about her "Grandma". I wished she had lived long enough for me to get to know her but I am still proud of the Grandma that I have gotten to know in stories, photos, and research. Though I never got to meet her before her passing in 1966,I feel like I do know her from the many years of putting her genealogy together. Jacoby
