Virgil Elwood Martin, age 85 of Petersburg, WV died Friday, November 26, 2010 at his home. He was born May 21, 1925 in Maysville, WV and was a son of the late James Henderson Martin and Delia Susan (Alt) Martin.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae (Judy) Martin on Feb 14, 2006; one step great grandson, Benjamin Parker; one sister, Bessie Kesner and one brother, James Vernon Martin on November 8, 2010.
Mr. Martin had worked for the Petersburg Tannery for several years and retired from Rockingham Poultry in Moorefield, WV.
He was a member of the Bethel Church of the Brethren. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the Petersburg VFW Post 6454 and the American Legion Post 78.

One son: Roy E. Martin of Petersburg, WV
Three daughters: Clara Mae Watts of Petersburg, WV Brenda Sue Alexander of Petersburg, WV Donna J. Mowery of Augusta, WV
8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, 1 step great-great grandson.
One sister: Elsie Weese of Baltimore, MD
Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. (Dec. 1st) at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Rotruck officiating.
Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville, WV with military rites by the Petersburg VFW Post 6454 and West Virginia Army Honor Guard.
