Elsie was born on October 2, 1930 to parents Roy and Nora (Thoren) Burnham, in Wilton, Minn. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at First Lutheran Church of Bemidji. She attended elementary school in Solway and high school in Bemidji. She was united in marriage to Walter Petersen on March 13, 1948, in Minnesota.
Elsie moved to Madison in 1967 following her divorce. She married Glenn "B.T." Thompson on Jan. 1, 1972 and they made their home in Lac qui Parle Village. She worked at the Dawson V.F.W. until 1988 when she was unable to do so because of illness.
She is survived by her husband, four children, two sisters, and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Nora Burnham, an infant daughter Terri, and one brother, Arthur Burnham.
Elsie loved to read, garden, sing, dance, tell jokes (badly), to impress people with her yodeling, and loved to gamble. She would gamble about the weather, football, card games, etc. She played the accordion much to the dismay of her children. Her baked goods are greatly missed, but she passed her love of cooking and baking down to her daughters.
A much beloved feisty character who loved her family with all of her being. There are too many stories to tell and you just had to be there to really understand the dynamic individual who was known as mom, grandma, or ET.
