William A. Bain was the son of Hugh Bain and Nancy McRae of Cumberland Co. NM. He wanted to become a doctor and went to Scotland to the University of Edinburgh, but developed tuberculosis and had to return to the States. He died, leaving his widow Catharine with 5 young children.
