- W.T. Burkett died December 31. 1936 at the home of his son, Mr. Burt Burkett in Georgiana. He was born Jan. 1 1864 near Georgiana. He was the son of Levy & Elizabeth Lee Burkett. At the time of his death, he was visiting his son, but made his home at his daughter's, Mrs. Hollis Rigsby, at East Chapman. He was married 3 times. These were Miss Dolly Gavin, Miss Adelle Barganier and Miss Mary Carpenter. His first wife lived only 2 years into the marriage. His second wife lived 28 years and was the mother of 9 surviving children. His last wife, Mary Carpenter was spared to stay with him 11 years and a source of comfort in his declining years, until death took her away less than 2 years ago.
His surviving children are; Burt, of Georgiana, Sidney, of Lake Harbor, Fla., Mrs. Mary Zimmerman, Mrs. W.H. Smith, Mrs. Virgil Kenney and Andy Burkett, all of Birmingham.
Mrs. Homer Horne, Citra, Fla, Mrs. Hollis Rigsby, Chapman Ala., and Mrs. D.O. Thompson of Crane Hill, Al., Also surviving are the following sisters; Mrs. Lizzie Beasley, Mrs. Callie Crenshaw and Mrs. Lillie Davis of Georgiana, and Mrs. Drucilla Watson of Brewton. Two Brothers, Rob and Jeff Burkett of Georgiana and 16 grandchildren. The body was interred Jan. 1, 1937 at Union Cemetery.January 14,1937
