Alice M. Forgey, 91 of Marysville, Kansas, died Saturday morning, November 19, 2011 at Country Place Senior Living in Marysville.

Alice was born on March 6, 1919 at Hull, Kansas, the daughter of John and Lena (Smidt) Wassenberg. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1937. She married Harold Forgey on February 14, 1942 in Marysville. Harold passed away on March 21, 1997.

Alice worked as a bookkeeper at the drug store and also worked at the movie theatre. She enjoyed being outdoors, doing yard work, and visiting with her wonderful neighbors. Alice liked to research family history. She collected articles, documents, and photographs of the Wassenberg family and traveled with Harold to Kentucky to discover members of the Forgey family.

She enjoyed traveling, and she and Harold traveled to many places, including Hawaii, Mexico, Ireland, and England. When she was president of the U.P Old Timers, they traveled by train to Sun Valley Idaho for conventions.

Alice enjoyed sewing and baking. She became known as "The Cookie Lady" in her family because of her special Christmas cookies. She loved little children, and always tried to find ways to make them feel loved and to have fun when they visited. Alice loved music, dancing, and playing the organ.

She was a member of the Union Pacific Old Timers, Women of the Moose, American Legion Auxillary, and St. Gregory's Altar Society.

She is survived by her son, Larry Forgey of Marysville, and her daughter, Donna Forgey of Prairie Village, Kansas, a niece, Jane Sedlacek, of Frankfort, and two nephews, Brian Wassenberg and Alan Wassenberg, both of Marysville, and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold, two brothers, Clarence Wassenberg and John Wassenberg, Jr. and her sister, Helen Wassenberg.
