Sidney Hercules Dies Here at 83

Sidney Hercules, 83, a former employee
of the City of Topeka, died Thursday
morning in a Topeka hospital. His home
was a 945 Webster.
He was born Sept. 26. 1881, near Downs
in Osborne County. He lived in Topeka
ever since coming here in a covered wagon
in 1888 with his parents, two brothers and
three sisters.
For 10 years Mr. Hercules was caretaker
at Gage Park, and for 30 years was a city
fireman. He drove the last team of horses
at No. 6 Fire Station. He retired in 1947.
He and Mary Bass were married in 1914 and
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary
July 18, 1964.
Survivors include his wife of the home;
and a daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Frances) Allison,
1234 Randolph.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the
Wall-Diffenderfer Chapel with burial in
Mount Hope Cemetery. He will lie in state
at the mortuary until the time of services.
Friends may call at 1234 Randolph from 7 p.m.
to 9 p.m. Friday, and at the mortuary from
7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
