Ray H. Maddy died Sunday, Aug. 21, at his home.
He was born in South Sioux City, Neb., to William G. and Myrtle Blanche (Lewis) Maddy.
Ray married Velma L. Voss on Sept. 22, 1938, in Suver. They moved to Albany following their marriage and lived there since. Velma died on Jan. 2, 2002.
Ray worked at the Pulp & Paper Mill in Salem and was captain of the Adair Fire Department during World War II. He was an Albany police officer from 1946 to 1949 and was the Albany police chief from 1949 to 1960. He was a Linn County judge and county commissioner from 1961 to 1966. He was a Willamette Industries sales representative until retirement.
Ray graduated from the National FBI Police Academy in Washington, D.C. He was a retired member of the Oregon Association of Chiefs of Police, and a founding member of the Oregon-Washington Lawmen's Association. Ray was a member of the Oregon Juvenile Court Judges Association, National Council of Juvenile Court Judges and a life member of Albany Elks Lodge. He was on the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Albany and a member of the Albany Chamber of Commerce, Albany Woodpeckers and Columbia Canary Club.
Ray was a dairy and beef cattle farmer and enjoyed raising flowers and canaries.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son, Jerry Maddy; grandson, Junior Maddy; and brothers, Leroy, Warren, Floyd and his twin, Ralph Maddy

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albany, with private entombment at Willamette Memorial Park Mausoleum
