Charles Vance was born in Ireland in 1821. There are no records to date on his actual birth but census records and family records give his year of birth as 1821. He immigrated the the United States when he was about three years of age and the family would eventually find their way to Dunham, Quebec where they would remain for the next four decades. In about 1878, Charles prepared his family for a move to the United States and first stopped in Minnesota where his eldest daughter had established her family. Charles, Elizabeth, and their many sons would move on to the mining community of Glendale, Montana and arrived in the summer months of 1879. Charles would work for the Hecla Consolidated Mining Company and had his hands in various other ventures before passing away at Glendale on May 30, 1905. He was buried on the hill overlooking the town he called home for nearly 25 years. It is not known where Charles was actually laid to rest within the cemetery as there remains no headstone. It is not known whether or not the family ever placed one. We do know that he was laid to rest here!
