Robert Larence Slater was the son of Smith Slater and Josephine Banford. He was born October 9,1881 at Decatur, Illinois. Later in life, Robert would marry Ethel Vance of Glendale and worked as a "Pumper" for the Railroad at Melrose. It was the railroad that most likely brought the Slater family as Robert worked for the Union Pacific, Utah Division. Robert died on November 10, 1932 and was laid to rest on the hill overlooking Melrose. His entire family would eventually join him and are all interred at the Melrose, Montana Cemetery.
