Jonathan is the son of Solomon Averill (Thomas, William, William)born 10/22/1719 at Preston, CT. He lived at Preston and married Hannah Pettengill at Bridgewater, CT on 12/18/1746. Solomon died at Preston in 1791.
Jonathan and Anna were married in Ashford, CT on 12/4/1783. They had seven children: Statina or Stata, married Warren Mack Jr., Harty/Harta Maria, Lorett/Latina, Francis L., Rex, George, and William Pitt. All of their sons were soldiers in the Revolutionary War.

Dr. Averell was a pensioner under the 3/18/1818 Act of Congress in having served during the War of the Revolution as a surgeon on board the frigate Providence. He served in the early days of the war as a fifer in Capt. Edward Mott's Co. of Preston, CT, Col. Beebe's Regt., raised for the protection of New London in 1776. His brother, Thomas, was also a fifer in the same company. At sea as a surgeon, he was captured along with his ship and interred in Ireland. Escaping, he found his way to Spain and back home at the close of the war. He and his wife owened land in Brideport, Oneida Co., NY and at Warren, Herkimer Co., NY.
They are buried directly across from Warren & Polly Mack, the inlaws of their daughter Statina who married Warren Mack II.
