Born in England, moved with family to Alberta, Canada at age of six months. Farming childhood. Enlisted with Canadian Army at age of 15 (said he was older).He went to France, his correct age was found out, so he cut timber behind the front lines, escaping the trenches. Upon returning to NOrth America, he got jobs in mines. He met Anna at a dance. Jack eventually shifted to Grass Valley, California to work in the deepest gold mines in the world at that time. He wrote Anna, asking her to come out and marry him, which she did. Jack worked in the mines until WWII when he found work building ships near San Francisco and learned the carpentry trade, he was home every couple of weeks.
Anna and Jack settled in Grass Valley, building a family home between Grass Valley and Nevada City.
Anna and Jack had four children:
Phyllis (Allen McMahan)
Bill (Peggy Hamilton)
Wally (Beth McComb)
Carroll Anne (Jack Knudson)
