Jean Marie Abbott

Dallas, Texas – Jean Marie Abbott passed into the presence of her Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 7, 2014.
Born June 1, 1928, to Hubert and Louise (Klumb) Heighes in Potlatch, Idaho, Jean was the oldest of three and the only girl. In the early 70s, Jean moved to southern Idaho where she worked for many years at J.R. Simplot from which she retired in the late 80s. Jean was the first woman in the frozen food warehouse where she started out manually loading boxes of processed potatoes into trucks. Eventually she worked her way into management.
During her retirement, Jean volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Minidoka Hospital and held the office of president for a term. She also actively involved in the Rupert Elks Lodge where she also served as an officer from time to time.
Jean loved to camp and fish in the mountains and walk along the Oregon coast. She always had something to throw on the stove or into the oven should company stop by close to meal time. Jean was a pet lover and would stop to rescue many a dog or cat if she saw one in need.
In 1999, Jean and Dwight rekindled an old flame they had for each other back in high school. They married and Jean moved to where Dwight lived north of Moscow. In 2010, she relocated to the Dallas, Texas, area where she resided until her passing.
Jean was preceded in death by daughter, Velda Hodgson; husband Dwight; and brother, Milton Heighes. She is survived by a daughter in Dallas, Texas, a brother in Winchester, Ore., five granddaughters, and 17 great-grandchildren. [Survivor names omitted per Find a Grave policy.]
