Ella Ashley Champion was the daughter of Rev. Desmond G. and Sophronia Green Ashley. Ella was married by her father July 5, 1887 to Ancil Anderson Champion in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Ancil and Ella became the parents of a daughter, Mildred Ashley Champion, who married Frank E. Miner .

Ella had one sister, Bertha Ashley Maynard, and two brothers, Francis P. and Wilbur F. Ashley, and another sister who died in infancy. Ella also had a half-sister, Vienna E. Ashley Robbins, and two half-brothers, Elisha J. and Arthur D. Ashley. Ella's sister, Bertha, is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middletown, Connecticut; Francis, Wilbur, Elisha, Arthur and Vienna are all buried in Duck River Cemetery, Old Lyme, Connecticut, as are Ella's parents, Rev. Desmond G. and Sophronia Green Ashley.
