RETIRED TEACHER DIES IN ARKANSAS

Funeral services for Dr. J. W. Bowlus, former East Texas State Teachers College professor who died Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. P. D. Scott, in Van Buren, Ark., will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the McKamy-Campbell Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park.

A native of Ohio, Dr. Bowlus had spent most of his time in Dallas with relatives since 1929. He had been a resident of Texas since 1901. He received his early education in Ohio and was graduated from Baldwin-Wallace University there with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

For many years, Dr. Bowlus was a lecturer before going to the West Texas State Teachers College as professor of science and languages in 1905. He taught there ten years, retiring because of ill health.

He was a member of the Highland Park Methodist Church here.

He is survived by a son, Chief Warrant Officer Ralph W. Bowlus, United States Navy; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas and Mrs. Helen Price, both of Dallas; Mrs. Mildred Scott, Van Buren, Ark.; two brothers, Charles Bowlus, Tremont, Ohio; Milton Bowlus, Toledo, Ohio; three grandchildren.
