Malvina was the only child of Francis M and Melvina Nation Kirk. Her stepmother Melvina had another daughter, Lucretia Nation. I believe her real mother was Susan, sister to Melvina. Family lore states that baby Malvina was brought to Francis and Melvina and was told it was her sister and Francis's baby and for them to raise her.
Her Kirk grandparents were Thomas Riley and Martha "Patsy" Gwin Kirk. Her father Francis had moved with his parents to Mercer County, Missouri sometime before 1850. After the age of 67, her father moved to Neodesha Kansas where he died in 1909.

She married James William Clodfelter Feb 16, 1879 in Mill Grove, Mercer County, Missouri. They had 13 children: Nancy Clarinda "Clara"(1880-1968)married William Clyde Rice, John Kelly(1882-1956)married Mable Ann Rice(2nd marriage for him), Herman Edgar(1884-1970)married Louella Barrett Young, David Francis(1886-1887), Millie Vista(1889-1968)married Edgar Bernard King, Gracie Leona(1891-1963)married James W Franklin, William Perry(1893-1918)married Lillian May Furnish, Jessie Elmer(1895-1977)married Amy Beaton, Sylvia Cecil(1897-1899), Edna Fern(1899-1997)married Miller, Clifford Kirk(1901-1959)married Veda, Margaret Edith(1904-1990)married Thomas Ernest Cox, and Virgil Leroy(1906-1992)never married.
